Conference at the Arab Week, UNESCO

Professor Khaled El-Enany, the League of Arab States’ candidate for the post of UNESCO Director-General, participated in the Arab Week at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in November 2024, where he delivered a conference titled “Sciences in the Arab World. Past, Present and Future.” In his address to a big audience and various delegations, he highlighted the lasting contributions of Arab scholars to fields such as mathematics, medicine, chemistry, and astronomy—disciplines that continue to shape modern science.

El-Enany also discussed the challenges facing scientific advancement in the Arab world. He offered strategies for fostering innovation and strengthening the region’s global contributions. He emphasized UNESCO’s essential role in promoting a universal vision of science that bridges disparities and ensures technological progress benefits all, in line with Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

He concluded the conference with a call for science to be a shared language that unites cultures and builds an inclusive future, where each culture contributes to global progress and hope.

During his visit to UNESCO, El-Enany explored exhibitions of arts, crafts, and calligraphy, engaging with delegations and Arab culture enthusiasts. This visit followed his earlier participation in African Week at UNESCO in May 2024, where he also stressed the importance of introducing young people to cultural heritage.
