In November 2024, Professor Khaled El-Enany met with HE Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the United Nations Tourism (UN Tourism). They discussed potential areas for collaboration between UNESCO and UN Tourism, focusing on how tourism can foster global connections, enhance cultural diversity, and contribute to sustainable development goals.
Pololikashvili praised El-Enany for his exceptional work and commitment to education, science, cultural tourism, and heritage preservation. He expressed his support, stating: “His dedication to education, science, and culture is highly commendable. I wish him the best of luck on his journey.”
In recognition of his contributions, Professor El-Enany was designated following the meeting as UN Tourism Special Ambassador for Cultural Tourism.
Professor El-Enany expressed his gratitude to the Secretary-General, emphasizing his long-standing relationship with UN Tourism during his ministerial tenure which included significant efforts to promote Egypt’s cultural heritage and advance sustainable tourism initiatives.
