Khaled El-Enany comes from Egypt, a land where past civilizations have left their mark, where cultures have met, and where centuries of history remind us of the strength of diversity and the need for humility. It is within this context that his convictions were born. He has learned that peace is not an abstract idea, nor a distant ideal. Driven by a life experience rich in responsibilities and with determination, Khaled El-Enany presents himself as a candidate for the post of Director-General of UNESCO.

He has a clear ambition: “In a fragmented world confronting unprecedented global crises, only peace can unite us and guarantee a harmonious life and a prosperous future for every human being. Let us come together to make UNESCO the organization for all people, for all nations, building hope based on trust and mutual respect.”

In April 2023, the Egyptian Prime Minister announced his candidacy. Since then, he has obtained the endorsement of the African Union in February and July 2024 and that of the League of Arab States in May 2024.

Determined to present an inclusive vision for UNESCO, reflecting the entire spectrum of global perspectives, Professor El-Enany visited so far more than forty countries around the world, listening and exchanging with officials, experts, civil society and people from different backgrounds and cultures.
In accordance with UNESCO’s Executive Board regulations, the candidate’s vision will be formally presented to the Organization before March 15, 2025.
Committed to listening to all voices, Khaled El-Enany warmly invites all interested parties to share their ideas towards a more impactful UNESCO for all people (please submit your suggestions here).
