In recognition of his contributions to Egyptology and his enduring academic connection with the University, Professor Khaled El-Enany was awarded the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” by the French University Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3.
The ceremony, held at UPV on September 26 2024, brought together numerous distinguished personalities, including the President of UPV, the Mayor of Montpellier, Members of Parliament and Senators, the Egyptian Ambassador to France, the Vice-Presidents of the University, members of the academic faculty and students. This recognition highlights not only his expertise as a renowned Egyptologist but also his significant role as Egypt’s former Minister.
During the ceremony, Professor Khaled El-Enany expressed his heartfelt gratitude and deep emotion at receiving this honor, emphasizing the unwavering bonds that connect him to UPV. He warmly reflected on his personal and academic journey, shaped by his multiple stays in Montpellier, which played a crucial role in defining both his career and his identity. In his speech, he also underscored the importance of education, research, and international collaboration, reaffirming his commitment to advancing science, culture, and communication as powerful tools for peace and progress for humanity.
Professor Khaled El-Enany has maintained close scientific, academic and professional ties with Montpellier and UPV for more than 25 years. After earning his DEA and PhD in Egyptology from UPV between 1997 and 2001, he went on to become a visiting professor eight times between 2006 and 2023. He also participated in many joint scientific and archaeological projects with UPV.
